The town of Fort Dodge will have a chance to see a top-flight intra-city clash between ranked squads tonight at Rogers Park here this evening.
Fourth-rated Fort Dodge (Class 4A) and No. 4 St. Edmond (2A) will continue their rivalry Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The squads renewed the series in the late 1990s, and now, with both squads near the top of their conference standings and strong contenders in their classes, this contest will be sure to showcase a strong display of talent.
The Dodgers (24-4 overall) have been on a hot streak, winning 18 of 19 games and their last six overall, including a road sweep of No. 6 Waukee on Thursday. They have prevailed in 10 of the last 13 contests against the Gaels, including a 12-4 victory last season.
Fort Dodge is led at the plate by Luke Vandermaten. The senior is batting .460 and has driven in 13 runs with a team-high 40 hits.
Senior Will Gormally is hitting .438 and has driven in 23 runs with 39 hits. Tommy Halligan is batting .415 with 17 RBI and 34 hits.
Senior Sam Edwards leads the squad in home runs (four) and RBI (28).
Junior Tyler Vaughn (6-0) and sophomore JC Hatcher (5-0) are both undefeated on the mound for the Dodgers. Vaughn has a 2.48 ERA and Hatcher is at 2.25.
For St. Edmond (20-6), David Flattery is the leader at the plate. The junior is batting .574 with a team-high 26 RBI.
Junior first baseman Tommy Setterdahl has also been strong at the plate, batting .493 with a team high 33 hits and 20 RBI.
Neil Flattery (5-1) and Nick Clark (4-1) have been the aces for the Gaels. Flattery has a 1.50 ERA and Clark is sporting a 1.25 ERA.
