BADGER A pair of agribusiness foundations have donated $10,000 to help pay for a new truck for the Badger Fire Department.
NEW Cooperative Foundation donated $5,000 and the Land O'Lakes Foundation contributed an additional $5,000.
That money will help pay for a new pumper truck the all volunteer department hopes to get next year, according to Badger Fire Chief Glen Westling. He said the new truck will cost about $280,000.
He said the department will continue raising money from other sources. The annual barbecue dinner and street dance will be a significant fund raiser, he added.
Westling is also applying for a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help pay for the truck. In 2005, the department was awarded a federal grant which helped pay for a tanker truck delivered in 2006.
The new truck would replace a pumper that is about 21-years-old.
The NEW Cooperative Foundation is the charitable giving entity of Fort Dodge based NEW Cooperative Inc. It invests in youth development, education, agriculture, conservation, and community support and development.
The Land O'Lakes Foundation, established in 1997, provides funding for human services, education, youth programs, civic activities and the arts.
