VENICE, Fla. - Karen J. Allen, 73, of Venice, FL, formerly of Fort Dodge, Iowa passed away July 1, 2012 with loving family by her side. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. She worked for many years in the Younkers Shoe Department in Fort Dodge Iowa, and for Fireside Homes in Venice Florida. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and Christmas was her favorite time of the year always going overboard with gifts for all. She was born April 19, 1939 in Fort Dodge, IA to Mardell (Johnson) and John Spittal. Karen was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Joe. Survivors include her daughter, Julie (Mitch) Fischbach of Thornton, CO; sons, Scott (Pam) Allen of Arvada, CO and Michael (Mamet) Allen of North Port, FL; ten grandchildren: Todd, Mallory, and Molly Fischbach of Thornton, CO, Jessie, Jamie, and Joey Allen of Arvada, CO, Matthew, Mason, and Max Allen, and Myra Amodia of North Port, FL; two brothers, Rev. John Spittal of Sarasota, FL and Jerry Spittal of Preham, MN. She will be missed greatly by all. A Graveside Service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, July 6 at Sarasota National Cemetery. Memorial Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Epiphany Cathedral Church in Venice Florida. To share a memory visit
