CALLENDER - Lucian D. Roberts 92, formerly of Manson, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2012 at his home in Callender. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Faith Baptist Church, Fort Dodge, with Pastor Darwin Miller officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Church until service time. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. at Highland Township Cemetery, Churdan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Faith Baptist Church. Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie is serving the family.

Lucian is survived by his children, Myrna (Bob) Sell of Glendale, AZ, Lowell (Linda) Roberts of St. Louis, MO, Larry (Betty) Roberts of Walnut, IA, Lyle (Karen) Roberts of Callender, IA, L. Douglas (Barb) Roberts Colo, IA, Melody (Rick) Larson of Renwick, IA; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Doris Roberts. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred; parents Willis and Dora (Loftus) Roberts; brothers, Joe and Ralph; two granddaughters, Tammy Eppens and Robin Lutfy; and a great-grandson Lucas Peterson.

Lucian David Roberts was born October 22, 1919 at Texas County, MO. He attended and graduated from Churdan High School in 1937. On November 25, 1937 he was united in marriage to Mildred Silbaugh at Churdan. The couple made their home in Grand Junction and later on a farm near Manson. Lucian and Mildred enjoyed 53 wonderful years together and raised six children. He farmed, hauled grain and livestock with his semi-tractor, and drove school bus for the Manson Northwest Webster School District. After retirement, Lucian and Mildred spent their winters in Arizona and Texas. Mildred passed away in August 1991. Lucian lived on the family farm near Manson for 50 years and moved to Callender in 2000. Lucian never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone he met along the way.
