To the editor:
I read about a moped safety class going to be offered. With RAGBRAI coming up, I have to ask this. Why do mopeds, which are about the same size of bicycles and limited to about the same speed require a safety flag when bicycles on the road do not? I have read articles for and against bicycles on the road, and many riders can ride faster than a moped. Why are bicycles not required to have the same flag to be on the road? If it helps drivers see mopeds, it should help drivers see the bikes. I also saw a bicyclist riding the wrong way on First Avenue South and I wonder if the rider could get a ticket for riding the wrong way on a one way street?
If they want to use the same roads, they should follow the same rules licensed drivers have to, even like moped riders.
