MASON CITY - Clarion-Goldfield's run to the school's first ever state baseball tournament ended on Tuesday night.
Forest City pulled out a 7-5, eight-inning victory over the Cowboys in the Class 2A, Substate 2 final on Tuesday.
Forest City (21-8) gave junior left-hander Isaac Tuttle an early 2-0 lead as Jordan True had an RBI single in the first and Erich Erdman an RBI double in the second.
However, the Cowboys (15-16) took advantage of three Forest City errors in the bottom of the second to score five runs as they sent nine batters to the plate.
After that, Tuttle threw zeroes on the board for the Indians - who meet third-ranked North Polk (29-4) in a state quarterfinal at 8 p.m. on Saturday at Principal Park in Des Moines.
Meanwhile, Clarion-Goldfield's Wyatt Sann, who came on in relief in the third inning, allowed two hits entering the eighth.
