Treynor wins in extras

No. 13 Treynor narrowly escaped with a dramatic 3-2 nine-inning Class 2A semifinal victory over eighth-ranked Sumner-Fredricksburg Thursday afternoon at Rogers Sports Complex.

Emma Fiene, a junior, came home with the winning run for the Cardinals (27-5 overall) on a two-out wild pitch.

Kate Killinger, Fiene and Gracie Myers all went 2-for-3 offensively for Treynor, which plated its other two scores in the bottom of the fourth.

Going the distance in the circle was ace Madison Keysor (25-4), who scattered four hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Down 2-0, the Cougars (33-11) battled back to tie the game in the seventh on a RBI triple from Tiffany Hoth and an error by the Treynor shortstop.

Hoth finished 2-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI for the Cougars, who were outhit by the Cardinals, 10-4.
