Virgie Henrichs, 100, of Fort Dodge, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012, at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Christ Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, August 1st at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.
Virgie is survived by two of her children, August (Erlene) Henrichs Jr. of Winterset, IA and Janice Wiley of Jonesburg, MO, also a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Henrichs of Ankeny, IA. Virgie also leaves behind eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; her brother, John (Jean) Claman of Palm Desert, CA and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Rose Claman; her husband, August Hendrichs; their son, Gary Henrichs; eight brothers and three sisters.
Virgie Marie Claman was born April 11, 1912 in Gate City, Virginia to Robert and Rose (Doran) Claman. She moved to Gilmore City, Iowa when she was 3 months old raised there and graduated from Gilmore City High School in 1931. She married her husband August Henrichs on October 5, 1932. August was a farmer and she was a farmer's housewife. They had their three children in Gilmore City, and then bought a farm in 1960 near Cantril, Iowa. Retired from farming in 1976 and moved to Bloomfield, Iowa. Then in 1985, they moved to Fort Dodge. August died in June of 1997. She moved from Fort Dodge to the South Care Center in Winterset, Iowa in May of 2012.
