Shields named CCS dean of students

Community Christian School has appointed Margaret Shields to the newly created position of dean of students.

Shields has a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Iowa State University, and has completed advanced training in specialty areas including Orton Gillingham training for working with students with dyslexia.

She has been a classroom teacher specializing in elementary education for 31 years and has spent much time each summer tutoring students of all ages in reading and math. Shields is also a mentor for other teachers and has successfully assumed various leadership responsibilities assigned to her throughout her career.

Community Christian School, 3058 10th Ave. N., was founded in 1978 as a nondenominational school. CCS serves students preschool through eighth grade.

CCS is now taking applications for the coming school year. Inquiries can be made by calling the school at 573-3011. Community Christian School is accredited by the Iowa Department of Education and is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International.
