Mary Stark, through her estate, has bequested a legacy gift to St. Edmond Catholic Schools of $1.5 million and an additional $750,000 to Holy Trinity Parish.
Stark, who passed away June 2011, was a member of the church and an admirer of its school system.
"Mary gave many blessings to Holy Trinity and St. Edmond during her life," Tom Miklo, St. Edmond development director, said. "Her commitment, energy and devotion were second to none. So we fully expected that something remarkable would come our way with her final gift and we are pleased to have been remembered in such a generous manner."
Miklo worked with Stark for many years, and spoke of her deep affection for both Saint Edmond and Holy Trinity, describing her as a "professional volunteer, always ready to lend a hand and get involved.
"She told me many times how important both organizations were to her; how they helped herself and her husband Maurie raise their children, keeping them strong in faith and commitment," he said. "It seemed that there was never enough she or Maurie could do for us and those feelings obviously showed through with this final legacy gift. It is a fitting tribute."
Maurie and Mary Stark's estate gifts, left to the St. Edmond and Holy Trinity foundations, will be recognized as the Maurie and Mary Stark Fund, with the specific restrictions that only the interest earned annually be used for organizational needs. The corpus of the funds will remain intact for perpetuity.
