Following standout seasons on the diamond, a total of 27 local and area baseball players were recently selected to the IHSBCA 2012 all-district teams.
In Class 4A, junior Tyler Vaughn (P) and seniors Will Gormally (OF) and Luke Vandermaten (UT) were all named to the North Central District top squad for state runner-up Fort Dodge.
Vaughn compiled a 10-1 record on the mound with a 2.31 ERA in 66 2/3 innings of work. Gormally batted .443 with 62 hits, 41 runs and 34 RBI, while Vandermaten notched a .403 average with 58 hits, 24 runs and 21 RBI.
Junior catcher Devon Harms (.383 BA, 41 H. 21 RBI, 19 R) and senior first baseman Sam Edwards (.300 BA, 40 RBI, 39 H, 22 R) each landed on the second team as well for the CIML Iowa Conference champion Dodgers, who set a new single-season school record for wins with 36.
St. Edmond was represented on the 2A Central District top squad by junior first baseman Tommy Setterdahl (.429 BA, 39 H, 31 RBI, 25 R), senior outfielder Neil Flattery (.375 BA, 39 H, 33 R), junior utility player David Flattery (.554 BA, 46 H, 35 RBI, 24 R) and senior utility player Nick Clark (.405 BA, 45 H, 32 R).
Sophomore Hank Crimins (.427 BA, 35 H, 22 RBI) was also awarded a spot on the second team as a utility player.
North Union's Sawyer Doocy (P) and Brett Deitering (OF) were both tabbed to the 2A Northwest District top squad, along with Emmetsburg's Brady Berkeland (3B). Jake Jackson (UT) of Emmetsburg was nominated to the second team.
Algona's Weston Shaw (C) was picked to the 3A Central District top squad. Humboldt's Brady Anderson (1B) and Ben Jacobson (UT) and Webster City's Jonny Davis (UT) all received second-team honors.
DJ Stowers (SS) from Southeast Webster-Grand made the 1A Central District top squad. Southeast Webster-Grand's Curt Castenson (P) and Tagan Dodson (UT) and Manson Northwest Webster's Braden Moser (OF) and Alex Bush (UT) were voted to the second team.
Austin Vaske (UT) of state semifinalist Bishop Garrigan was pegged to the 1A Northwest District top squad, while teammates Alex Boisjolie (C), John Burns (1B) and Zach Keith (3B) all settled for second-team recognition.
