Five Fort Dodge City Council members agreed to honor a municipal employee labor contract as the workers were in the process of leaving the United Steel Workers union, officials said Friday at a press conference. Mayor Matt Bemrich, the other two council members and top city staffers were not informed of that move.
City Attorney Mark Crimmins said the document signed by the five councilmembers has no legal significance.
The 54 former United Steel Workers members have been placed into the city's non-union wage and benefit scale.
