Author Jo Hamilton will visit area libraries next week signing and selling copies of her book "For the Love of Scott!" The book recalls her family's story of love, bewilderment and lingering frustration when faced with a storm of medical errors.
Hamilton will be at the Pocahontas Library at 2 p.m. and at the Laurens Library at 7 p.m. Monday. She will be at the Hawarden Library at 11 a.m. and the Spirit Lake Library at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. She will be signing books at Missouri Valley at 11 a.m., Sac City at 3 p.m., and Lake View at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Due to her education in the health care field, Hamilton became the liaison between her family and the world-renowned hospital treating her younger brother, Scott Hamilton. She taught her family how to read Scott's medical chart and to ask pointed questions, no longer leaving his care to the medical professionals.
Since her brother's experience, Hamilton has reentered the medical field from a different perspective and continues to research ways to help prevent errors in the health care system.
Hamilton will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of her book to the Scott Hamilton CARES Initiative, which was founded in 1999 to help with cancer research, support cancer patients and their families, and find a cure for cancer.
