Harold A. Berte, 79, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Luverne, died Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Fort Dodge Villa Care Center.
The service honoring Harold's life will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 31, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by U.S. Navy Honor Guard. The visitation is from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Friday at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.
Harold is survived by his daughters, Carmen (Conrad) Peterson and Carleen (Russ) Heun, all of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Angie (Bill) Guy; and Bryan (Amber) Gambill; great grandchildren, Ava, Jack, Paige and Brecken; and his siblings, Ernest Berte, Milford; Robert Berte, Bode; George Berte, Phoenix, Arizona; Albert Berte, Bode; Rosemary Fischer, Pocahontas; Florentine Orres, Fort Dodge; Susanna Altman, Algona; Sr. Carol Ann, Dubuque; Bertha Reding, Bode; and Alverta Morrissey, Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Chad and two brothers, Edward and Clarence.
Harold Arthur Berte, the son of John and Margaret (Mergen) Berte, was born October 2, 1932 in Humboldt County. He attended school at St. Joseph. Harold was employed with Sande Construction in Humboldt and McPeak Trenching in Luverne from where he retired.
Harold enjoyed tending his vegetable and flower gardens. He was an avid cook and was known for his soups. He especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
