HOLIDAY ISLAND, Ark. - Dr. J. Wesley Kral, a resident of Holiday Island, Arkansas, was born September 19, 1915 in Vail, Iowa, a son of Anna (Freml) and Stephen A. Kral. He departed this life Monday, August 27, 2012 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, at the age of 96 years.
He became a Dentist in 1940 after graduating from the University of Iowa. Dr. Kral proudly served in the United States Army during World War II and was a part of the China, Burma, India Campaign (CBI), where he attained the rank of Captain. He was assigned to the Medical Detachment in the 330th Engineer Battalion. Dr. Kral was a Boy Scout in his younger years and became a Scout Master and later a District Commissioner. He was awarded the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award. He was civic minded and believed in giving to his community. His son Dennis Kral followed him in the profession and graduated in 1965 from the University of Iowa. His granddaughter Paula Kral also carried on the family tradition by graduating in 1990 from the University of Iowa representing the 3rd generation in the practice of dentistry. He loved travelling, eating good food, an avid coin and stamp collector and even became an appraiser of other people's collections. He enjoyed wood working and sand candle making in his spare time. And was even known to get on stage and perform in plays. Dr. Kral had a big smile that warmed your heart and was admired by all. He was known to many as a very kind, genuine, sweet man. He always put family first and cared for them all as best he could. And they thank him very much.
He is survived by three sons, Dr. Dennis J. Kral and wife, Karen of Cedar Rapids, IA, Jerry A. Kral and wife My of Berryville, AR and David W. Kral of Holiday Island, AR; two grandchildren, Paula K. Kral (John Todtz) and Vincent J. Kral (Meredith); five great-grandchildren, Ben Todtz, Joe Todtz, Grace Todtz, Aurora Kral and Annabelle Kral; several other relatives; and a host of friends.
On June 2, 1939, J. Wesley Kral was united in marriage with Helen Esther (Wrench) who preceded him in death, February 15, 2012 after 72 years 8 1/2 months of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen A. and Anna Kral; three brothers and five sisters.
Memorial service will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Lake City Union Church in Lake City, Iowa with Reverend Betty Weidert officiating.
