Byerl Vance Sr., 89, of Fort Dodge passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at the Villa Cottages. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with burial following at North Lawn Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the service at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Byerl was born in Red Oak, IA on November 29, 1922 and grew up in the Red Oak and Creston area. He married Patricia Steburg on March 7, 1953 and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. He worked for Hormel for 30 years until his retirement in 1984. He loved spending time with his family, he also enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and spending time outdoors.

Byerl is survived by his wife Patricia; children Ronald (Paula) Vance, Byerl Vance Jr., Dennis (Chris) Vance, Cindy Vance, Mary (Virgil) Hacker, Tim Vance, Lisa (Bruce) Bergerud, Lynn Vance (Pam Ball) and Terry (Nancy) Vance; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings Linda (Harvey) Poor, Max (Nancy) Vance, Betty Duhs and Phyllis (Dick) Brewer. He was preceded in death by his daughters Debra Rank and Sharon Reed and great-granddaughter Katelin Merrill.
