POCAHONTAS - Jerome L. Poduska - age 87, of Pocahontas, passed away Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at the Pocahontas Manor Care Center in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pocahontas, Iowa with Fr. Paul Bormann officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 9-10:30 AM Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at the church.

Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas, Ia. is handling arrangements.

Jerome Leo Poduska was born October 9, 1924, in Grant Twp., near Pocahontas, Iowa. He was the son of J.V. and Agnes (Kopriva) Poduska. He attended country school, Grant #6 and Pocahontas High School. Following his education, Jerome farmed with his father and brothers and liked to paint and tinker with machinery and engines. He was inducted into the U.S Army in 1946 and was assigned to the 151st Army -Air Force BU. Jerome was stationed in Hawaii and when he returned he continued to farm with his father and brother, Gerald. His health began to fail and Jerome went to live in the Veterans Home in Knoxville. He returned to Pocahontas to live at the Good Samaritan Home in 1974, later moving to the Pocahontas Manor. Jerome had a life long interest in farming and even when he entered the nursing home he would tell stories of his farming days and the tractors he loved.

Jerome was a member of the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church where he served mass and sang in the choir with his brothers and cousins. When the parish merged he became a member of the Resurrection Parish.

Jerome is survived by his cousins, Joyce Baumert of Tucson, AZ; Byron Poduska of Pocahontas; Benita Williams of Naperville, IL; Ruth Barrett of Elk River, MN and Patty Oatman of Corona, CA; many nieces & nephews and a good friend, James D. Bartosh, of Pocahontas. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Gerald and Paul.
