HUMBOLDT - The Humboldt City Council accepted a grant Tuesday from the Federal Aviation Administration for the city's airport.

The $52,427 grant will be used to acquire additional land at the end of the airport runway.

In other business, the council extended Tuesday's bid letting for a downtown demolition project another two weeks. The bids will be opened Thursday and will be reviewed at the next council meeting. The project involves the demolition of a building at 611 and 613 Sumner Ave.

The council also approved the first reading of an ordinance adding the Eagle Ridge Addition to the city's tax abatement program. If approved, the new houses in the addition will be eligible for tax abatement. The taxes on the first $75,000 of the value will abated for five years, under the ordinance. There will be an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday for people to view the lots. The addition is located south of Lake Nokomis.
