MANSON - Manson Northwest Webster junior Ellie Herzberg has verbally committed to play basketball at the University of Northern Iowa.

Herzberg accepted UNI head coach Tanya Warren's scholarship offer to join the Panthers in the fall of 2014.

"I'm very excited to join the Panther family," said Herzberg, who has been a two-year starter for MNW. "The coaches and players were extremely welcoming, and they are confident in the direction their program is heading.

"I really like their fast-paced style of play and hope I can fit in well. I am thankful for this opportunity and plan to make the best of it."

Ellie has earned first-team all-Twin Lakes Conference honors as a freshman and sophomore. She has also been a member of the IGCA Northwest Iowa all-district team, and the IBCA all-region 2 team.

As a sophomore, Herzberg led the Cougars to an 18-5 overall record, while averaging just under 20 points and five assists per game. Her scoring average was good four fourth overall in 2A.

"Ellie is an outstanding kid with high character and tremendous work ethic. She understands the game of basketball and does a great job of being the leader on the court in games and in practice," MNW head coach Bret Larson said. "I have enjoyed the chance of getting to coach her, and really believe the best is yet to come for Ellie.

"Northern Iowa is getting a top-notch basketball player and person."
