Cowboys move to 3-0

CLARION - Clarion-Goldfield stayed perfect on the season, knocking off South Central Calhoun 17-14 on Friday night.

The Cowboys (3-0 overall, 1-0 district) used another solid ground attack for the victory.

Matt Odland led the way with 74 yards on 16 carries. Jake Haberman scored a 14-yard touchdown and Trenton Sann had a one-yard touchdown run.

Adam Stevens threw a two-point conversion to Stephen McAtee.

Jayden Boylan added a 35-yard field goal.

Sann had 46 yards rushing and Haberman had 45.

McAtee caught two balls for 45 yards, had 10 tackles and two interceptions.

Jake Petzenhauser threw a 16-yard touchdown strike to Nathan Christensen and Brett Snyder had a three-yard touchdown run.

Kyler Case had 44 yards on 12 carries.

Lynx rally past Comets

CHARLES CITY - Webster City mounted a fourth quarter comeback to defeat Charles City.

The Lynx (2-1 overall, 1-0 district) won 28-21 after trailing 21-14 with 10:28 remaining in the contest.

Alex Oswald scored on an 11-yard touchdown run with 6:13 left. Oswald then threw a 29-yard scoring strike to Ben Mossman with 1:46 left to give the Lynx the lead.

On both drives Oswald threw a jump pass to Boone Myers on fourth downs.

Trey Tesdahl caught a 13-yard touchdown from Oswald in the first quarter and Oswald also had a five-yard scoring scamper.

Connor Larson led the Lynx with 98 yards on 17 carries. Oswald had 21 carries for 86 yards and was 5-for-12 passing for 73 yards.

Nelson Ball had nine tackles.

RB duo leads?Warriors

ALGONA - The rushing attack of Prairie Valley led the Warriors to a 17-6 victory over Bishop Garrigan Friday night.

Austin Promes, a junior, ran for 136 yards on 24 carries, scoring one touchdown, while senior Mason Gordon added 100 yards on 22 carries and a score.

Shawn Vaske led the Golden Bears (1-2 overall, 0-1 district) with 69 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown.

Brayton Loss had 13 tackles.

Balanced attack lifts MNW

HOLSTEIN - The Manson Northwest Webster football team opened district play with a 34-28 victory over Ridge View Friday night.

Brennan Thompson ran for 95 yards on 20 carries, scoring two touchdowns for the Cougars (2-1 overall, 1-0 in district).

Alex Bush was 11-for-17 passing for 200 yards and two scores. The sophomore has thrown for 416 yards in the last two weeks and five touchdowns.

Bush connected with Brody Eischeid eight times for 135 yards and one touchdown.

Manson Northwest Webster returns home for its next two games, facing IKM-Manning next Friday and Emmetsburg in two weeks.

Zinnel carries WB-M

BLAIRSBURG - Jesse Zinnel accounted for 265 yards and three touchdowns to lead West Bend-Mallard over Northeast Hamilton, 52-12 on the road Friday night.

Zinnel had 128 yards rushing and passed for 137 yards and two scores on four completions for West Bend-Mallard.

Jason Zinnel and Ashton Fehr each had TD catches, while Jordan Buhs ran for two touchdowns and returned a kickoff 65 yards for another score.

Buhs finished with 59 yards on the ground.

Nathan Grimm led the Wolverine (2-2 overall, 1-0 in district) defense with 13 stops.

Rebels defeat Indians

POCAHONTAS - The Pocahontas Area football team couldn't hold off Sioux Central, dropping a 14-13 decision Friday night.

Sioux Central scored in the fourth, converting to claim the lead and eventually the victory.

Draven Barth led the Indians (2-1 overall, 0-1 in district) with 82 yards on 22 carries and a touchdown, while Jay Brinkman added 70 yards and a score.

Brinkman also picked up 19 tackles on defense.

Eagles suffer road loss

LAKE MILLS - The Southeast Webster-Grand football team suffered their first loss of the season, falling to Lake Mills Friday night 34-7.

Tyson Comstock had another 100-yard game, tallying 128 yards on 28 carries for the Eagles (2-1 overall, 0-1 in district).

Curt Castenson connected with Nolan Mitchell for the lone Southeast Webster-Grand score of the contest.

EAGLE GROVE - The Eagle Grove football team was unable to contain Nashua-Plainfield Friday night, dropping a 39-22 decision in district play.

Brandon Johnson ran for 194 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Eagles (0-3 overall, 0-1 in district).

Brennon Cameron added a rushing TD.
