MidAmerican ranks highest in 2012 study

J.D. Power and Associates releases Gas Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction survey

MidAmerican Energy Co.'s customers have again given high marks to the company for excellent customer satisfaction.

J.D. Power and Associates announced the results of its 2012 Gas Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study, and MidAmerican Energy ranked highest in the Midwest Region-Large Segment for overall customer satisfaction.

"Our dedicated and committed employees continue to make the difference for our customers," said Terry Ousley, vice president, customer satisfaction. "We continuously communicate with our customers about everything from payment options and how to save money on bills to situations requiring emergency response."

The J.D. Power and Associates study evaluated 75 of the largest natural gas utilities in the U.S. for overall residential customer satisfaction, based on performance in the areas of billing and payment, price, corporate citizenship, communications, customer service, and field service.

Results of the study are based on more than 63,500 responses from residential customers between September 2011 and July 2012.

In 2012, residential customer satisfaction with natural gas utility companies averaged 634 on a 1,000-point scale. MidAmerican Energy's score was 662, ranking highest in the Midwest Region-Large Segment.

"Providing outstanding customer service is one of MidAmerican Energy's key business principles, along with operational excellence, regulatory integrity, employee commitment and safety, environmental respect, and financial strength," said Ousley. "Despite our ranking, we will continue to strive for improvement."

Earlier this year,

MidAmerican Energy was ranked highest in overall customer satisfaction in the Midwest Region-Large Segment by its residential electric customers in the J.D. Power and Associates 2012 Electric Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study. MidAmerican Energy also was ranked highest in overall customer satisfaction in the Midwest Region-Large Segment by its business electric customers in the J.D. Power and Associates 2012 Electric Utility Business Customer Satisfaction Study.

MidAmerican Energy Co., Iowa's largest energy company, provides electric service to 732,000 customers and natural gas service to 714,000 customers in Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska and South Dakota. It is headquartered in Des Moines.
