William "Bill" Hotz, 81, of Fort Dodge, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2012 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.
William "Bill" Joseph Hotz was born on October 24, 1930 in Fort Dodge, IA. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1949 and then attended Iowa State College, Ames. After meeting at a dance, Bill married his high school sweetheart Adelaide Foran on December 1, 1951 in Fort Dodge. They enjoyed dancing together the rest of their lives. Bill was a 5th generation farmer and farmed the homestead for 43 years with his sons before moving to Fort Dodge 18 years ago. He farmed his whole life. Bill helped plant this year's spring crop and fully intended to participate in the fall harvest.
Bill looked forward to his morning outings for coffee with friends. He and his son Robert collected and attended many toy tractor shows until Robert's death in 1995. Bill especially enjoyed his fishing trips to Lake Michigan and Lake of the Ozarks with his sons. Bill was an excellent husband and father and instilled in his boys both the value of hard work and having fun. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments.

He was a former member at Deer Creek Trinity Lutheran Church where he was a church chairman and usher for many years. He served as the Deer Creek County Committee for 25 years; 4-H leader for 15 years; Deer Creek Township Trustee; Member of the Izaak Walton League of America and past Clare Co-op board member. Bill was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years; Addie, their sons: Steven and his children Joshua (Jamie) Hotz and Jaymon Hotz, Ricke (Susan) and daughter Sharon (Mitch) Heun, Dana (Laurie) and their daughters Meredith (Eric)Pehler and Hillary Hotz, David (Sheen) and their children Travis Hotz and Stephanie Hotz and a great-granddaughter, Ella Hotz daughter of Josh and Jamie. He is survived by sisters: Jeanne(Tom) Griffith, Judy(Jerry) Rank, and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Beulah (Hale) Hotz, son Robert Hotz, and granddaughter Jandie Hotz.
His warm smile and good nature will be greatly missed by his family.
A time of gathering for family and friends will be from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, October 1, 2012 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge with Rev. Allen Henderson officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to the donor's choice, Trinity Hospice, or the St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund.
