CALLENDER - Irene E. Spirek, age 93, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Bickford Assisted Living in Ft. Dodge. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 4 at Zion Lutheran Church, Gowrie with Pastor Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Callender Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m., Wednesday, October 3rd at the Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie.
Survivors include a son, Craig Spirek and his wife, Crystal of Callender; daughters, Marlene Ohiyon and her husband, Jacob of West Palm Beach, Florida, Claudia Conrad and her husband, Ken of Ft. Dodge, and Sandie Hansen and her husband Randy of Shakopee, Minnesota; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Luella Edwards of Fredricksburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Emma (Bobzine) Ladwig; husband, Floyd Spirek; daughter, Joyce Gensmer and her husband, Victor; brothers, Harry and Charles Ladwig.
Irene E. Ladwig was born on October 3, 1918 in Callender and graduated from the Callender High School. She was united in marriage with Floyd Spirek on September 5, 1935 in Ankeny. The couple established their home on a farm near Callender. Irene was employed at the Somers Savings Bank in Callender for 17 years, retiring in 1979. She moved to Rochester, MN until 2001, then returning to the Bickford Assisted Living in Ft. Dodge. Irene was a former member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church, Callender, where she taught Sunday School for many years and held various offices in the A.L.C.W. She was a present member of Zion Lutheran Church, Gowrie.
