LAS VEGAS, NV Ruth Viola Maas, 102, was born in Eau Claire, WI on May 7, 1910 and died at Elderly Aristocrat in Las Vegas, NV on September 27, 2012. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 8th at Our Savior United Methodist Church in Manson with Rev. Deborah Parkison officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Manson and visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Larson-Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson.
Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Virginia Thomas of Richardson, TX, and Ardith (Kendall) Moritz of Las Vegas, NV. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Patricia (Ken) Wilson of Plano, TX and Lisa (Paul) Boisvert of Richardson, TX, one great-granddaughter, Alyssa Boisvert of Richardson, TX and one sister, Shirley Nothdurft of Largo, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marion Maas in 2006, son-in-law, James Thomas, and 8 brothers and sisters.
Ruth grew up on a farm with her aunt in Massena, IA. She graduated from Massena High School in 1928 and Buena Vista College in Storm Lake in 1959 receiving her degree in Elementary Education. She taught in rural schools near Pomeroy and at Manson Public Schools for 34 years. She was a member of the OSUM Church, a member of Eastern Star being worthy matron in 1955. She married Marion Maas in 1934 in Atlantic and together they farmed until retiring in 1971. They thenmoved into Manson until his death in 2006. Following Marion's death, Ruth moved to Las Vegas, NV to live with her daughter, Ardith (Kendall) Moritz.
Ruth enjoyed her family, her church, reading, crossword puzzles, crafts, visiting neighbors, flowers, gardening, making quilts, and she loved animals especially Benji and Koko, Ardith and Kendall's cats.
