The opening concert for the Fort Dodge Area Symphony's 63rd season will be 3 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Phillips Middle School Auditorium, 1015 Fifth Ave. N. Tickets are available at the door, $10 for adults. Students accompanied by an adult will receive complimentary tickets for this concert.
The concert will be conducted by the new director, Akira Mori, the director of orchestral studies and assistant professor at Drake University.
The soloist for the concert will be Michael Gast, the principal horn of the Minnesota Orchestra. He began playing the horn at the age of 15 and entered Florida State University when he was 17 as a performance scholarship student. Three years later, Gast was accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music. His many performances include soloist with Minnesota Orchestra, Cheyenne Symphony, Miami Chamber Orchestra, and International Horn Society Workshops.
