To the editor:
I have followed Congressman King's campaign since the redistricting in 2010. King is running for the new 4th Congressional District, which includes the community of Pomeroy. As someone who is concerned about the direction this country is heading, I am very pleased with King's plan to get American back on track and working again.
King explains the burdens ObamaCare is putting on America's businesses. Ernst & young recently estimated 710,000 jobs would be lost when ObamaCare is fully implemented. Additionally, ObamaCare creates 20 new taxes on the middle-class citizens. Christie Vilsack supports ObamaCare and its job-killing effects and huge tax hikes.
King also has a plan to rein in Washington's out-of-control spending. I cannot understand why citizens have to live within their means, but government doesn't have to. King's plan calls for a Balanced Budget Amendment, but Christie Vilsack calls this bipartisan plan "a gimmick." Vilsack just wants to continue down the path of record debt, which is now over $16 trillion. Vilsack is quoted as saying that she supports the Obama-Pelosi policies that have led to unemployment of over 8 percent for 43 consecutive months. Iowa does not need, nor can we afford this kind of representation in Congress.
I also find it odd that Vilsack did not move to Ames until she saw this opportunity to run against Congressman King since the new redistricting and that she has had more funds for her campaign come from out-of-state. Steve King was born and raised in Iowa, he brings valuable knowledge to Congress as an agri-businessman and small business owner of over 28 years. He has been representing Iowa as a Congressman since 2002, prior to that as a state senator. With that kind of work history, I don't believe anyone knows Iowans better than Steve King.
Please join me in voting for a congressman who will continue to fight for what is right for Iowans in Washington, D.C. Vote for Steve King in this November election. Thank you.
