Area qualifiers galore in Holstein

HOLSTEIN - Both the Prairie Valley and Bishop Garrigan girls are headed to the state cross country meet.

The Warriors turned in a runner-up effort at Monday's Class 1A district event with 82 points, while the Golden Bears (91) were third. No. 11 Tri-Center (59) took home top honors. Emmetsburg (94) finished fourth.

Pocahontas Area (144) was fifth and Manson Northwest Webster (350) was 14th.

Jaclyn Rittgers, a 12th-ranked senior, collected individual silver for Prairie Valley in a time of 15:59.27. Sibley-Ocheyedan's No. 1 Leah Seivert (14:38.91) was the decisive winner.

Rounding out the Warrior scorecard were Erica Rittgers (7th, 16:34.87), Jo Jo Krekow (16th, 17:43.04), Katie Clough (29th, 18:27.46) and Hannah Miller (31st, 18:28.17).

No. 9 senior Erin Reedy (16:13.77) checked in fourth for the Golden Bears, followed by Nicole Behr (8th, 16:35.26), Erin Quinlin (9th, 16:47.01), Emily Riesenberg (25th, 18:14.68) and Erica Carlson (51st, 19:17.80).

Pocahontas Area's Rose Meyer also moved on with a 10th-place showing, clocking a 16:58.59. Other Indian counters were Kara Neumann (22nd, 18:12.91), Rebecca Mauritz (38th, 18:43.06), Ashley Radig (40th, 18:45.90) and Chelsey Weimers (44th, 19:00.74).

The Cougars were represented by Katlyn Thompson (33rd, 18:30.62), Angel Thornton (81st, 21:05.34), Jordan Schreier (92nd, 21:42.72), Autumn Martin (106th, 23:01.26) and Jocelyn Keller (108th, 23:41.06).

In boys action, sixth-ranked junior Jack Walstrom (16:47.35) earned an individual victory for Manson Northwest Webster, which finished sixth. Teammate Alex Dangelser (17:51.88) also placed eighth.

Zach DeSagnes (40th, 19:14.77), Chase Bulten (48th, 19:27.61) and Collin Bulten (54th, 19:42.12) filled out the Cougar lineup.

Running for Prairie Valley were Taylor Clough (25th, 18:46.45), Noah Tucker (33rd, 19:01.35), Bryce Gustafson (42nd, 19:17.37), Dustin Gurnett (67th, 20:12.40) and Derek Seil (69th, 20:22.62).

Pocahontas Area's competitors were Caleb Ricke (37th, 19:05.82), Todd Pratt (47th, 19:24.54), Tyler Hubrich (65th, 20:09.58), Bryce Long (21:16.18) and Jon Plantz (98th, 21:22.19).

Taking part for Emmetsburg were Nick Grandstaff (44th, 19:19.08), Michael Pugh (85th, 20:58.24), Daniel Van Oosbree (90th, 21:10.68), Lane Smith (114th, 22:27.87) and Michael Clasing (120th, 23:28.50).

Alta-Aurelia (91), No. 2 Trinity Christian (111) and 12th-ranked West Lyon (114) each punched their tickets to state. Prairie Valley (217), Pocahontas Area (312) and Emmetsburg (383) were 8th, 12th and 15th, respectively.
