To the editor:
At the Lifestree Film Fest held recently at the Hawkeye Community Theatre, I was reminded once more about why I like Fort Dodge. The community spirit here is fantastic. You are so ready to try new things. The turnout for this first-time event was awesome - over 100 attended. Your spirit was wonderful. It was so much fun to see everyone decked out in full Halloween costume or Hollywood regalia. The excitement of the red carpet welcome and the paparazzi flashing their cameras made it feel like we were at a real star-studded event. Everyone had a good time dressing up in boas and hats and funny glasses for their special photo ops. Thank you for your enthusiastic support for this new community event.
We would also like to thank Hawkeye Theatre for generously allowing us to use their facilities and the Messenger which gave us great advertising and coverage, And thanks to the many businesses and individuals who donated door prizes for the evening and to Daniel Pharmacy for selling tickets for us. We had some first-year glitches, but we've ironed them out and next year it'll be bigger and better than ever. FYI: The audience choice favorite was "Breaking Through: Memories of the Tuskegee Airmen." Second choice was "Saving Valentina."
If you didn't pick up your free photos and you'd like to see the films in their entirety, join us on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Cana, 18 S. Third St. All are welcome. We're hoping also to have the photos up on our Lifetree Cafe Facebook site soon.
