To the editor:
I was greatly disappointed to learn of the scheduling of "Beggar's Night" on Wednesday, Oct. 31. In the past, each Wednesday night was commonly referred to as "Church Night" and was supposed to be activity-free in order to allow youngsters to attend church-related activities. It seems that this has been ignored more and more recently. Part of the strength of this country has been the knowledge, kindness and morals learned as a result of religious upbringing and participation. I find it alarming that the "powers that be" in Fort Dodge found it acceptable to ignore this tradition in Fort Dodge by this action. I think we need to pay attention to this poor choice and express our collective concern to those who make these choices for our children.
