SAC CITY - Police are investigating the discovery of possible human remains in a recently-purchased Sac City home.
The Sac City Police Department responded to a call around 3:45 p.m. on Monday about skeletal remains found in the basement of a home at 610 N. Fifth St., according to a written statement from Police Chief John Thomsen.
The owners told police they had just recently bought the house and made the discovery while cleaning out their basement.
The remains were sent to the Iowa state medical examiner's office for an autopsy to be done.
Sac City police were assisted at the scene by the Sac County Sheriff's Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
The DCI said they are not releasing any more information at this point, since it's still early in the investigation.
Calls to the Sac County Sheriff's Department and the Sac County attorney's office were not returned Tuesday afternoon.
