To the editor:
Your kindness, generosity and donations have made a huge difference to area families in need. Thanks to everyone who gave their unused treasures to Bridging the Gap - so others could have a bed to sleep in, a couch to sit on and a table to eat at - during Character Counts Week 2012.
Jess Martens, with the United Way, started Bridging the Gap last year and it recently received the Governor's Volunteer Award as an outstanding example of volunteerism and service to community. The Youth Engagement Board at Trinity Regional Medical Center chose to support Bridging the Gap as its local service project during Character Counts Week 2012.
Thanks go to board members for volunteering their organizations as drop spots for donations: Citizens Community Credit Union; Fort Dodge Ford; Trinity Regional Medical Center; First American Bank; Northwest Bank; Hy-Vee Food Store; Fort Dodge Schools; St. Edmond Catholic Schools and O'Halloran International for picking up donations at each of the drop spots.
The results of your thoughtfulness were amazing. The warehouse went from almost empty to almost full and $1,000 was donated to help pay for Cash for Cribs. The Young Professionals donated profits from their annual fall event and helped pick up and organize the warehouse of items. Thanks also go to several citizens who donated Cash for Cribs.
Thank you for proving, again, that Character does count in Fort Dodge. And remember - Bridging the Gap picks up donations all year round if you happen to still have some treasures at home.
