EARLY - A new four-lane section of U.S. Highway 20 in Calhoun and Sac counties will open to traffic next week.
To celebrate that development, the U.S. 20 Corridor Association has scheduled a dedication ceremony for 10 a.m. Wednesday on the highway near Early in Sac County.
U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Kiron; Gov. Terry Branstad; Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds; and Paul Trombino, director of the Iowa Department of Transportation; are expected to attend.
Following the ceremony, there will be a reception at the United Methodist Church, 402 Hickory, in Early.
The new four-lane section extends 26 miles between Iowa Highway 4 near Rockwell City and U.S. Highway 71 near Early.
It is the second longest continuous segment of four-lane highway to open in Iowa since the interstate highway system was built, according to Shirley Phillips, the president of the U.S. 20 Corridor Association.
