ALGONA - Funeral Mass for Sergeant Joseph A. Richardson will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona with Father Edward Girres officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Indian Mound Cemetery in Humboldt. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, November 30, at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona.
Sergeant Joseph A. Richardson died Friday, November 16, 2012, in Paktika Province, Afghanistan when rebels attacked his unit. He was 23.
His military honors include the posthumous awarding of the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart; the Army Commendation Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal (with Campaign Star); Iraq Campaign Medal (with Campaign Star); Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; NATO Ribbon (posthumous); and the Combat Infantry Badge.
