CLEO D. CAFFERTY

GOWRIE - Cleo D. Cafferty, 84, of Boone and formerly of Gowrie, passed away November 28, 2012 at Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, November 30, 2012 at United Methodist Church, Gowrie with Pastor Jane Shepherd officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Township Cemetery near Rinard. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Today at Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie where there will be a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM.

Cleo is survived by his wife, Jean of 62 years; children, Marj Johnson of Gowrie and Wayne Caffertyof Colo; four grandchildren, Benjamin (Kari) Johnson of Fort Dodge; Carrie (Chris) Lee of North Liberty; Nathan Johnson of Callender; and Tanner Johnson of Coralville; four great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Lee, Maxwell Johnson, Kaleb Johnson, and Boedy Lee; a sister, DorothySiemann of Lohrville; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Carrie (Pirie) Cafferty; son-in-law, Rick Johnson and sisters, Velma Lyle and Arlene Sandeen.

Cleo Dale Cafferty was born December 6, 1927 south of Rinard and graduated fromRinard High School. On August 26, 1950 Cleo was united in marriage to Jean Hicks. Cleo served in the Army during the Korean War, serving in the 40th Division and the 40th Quartermaster. For 37 years he worked for the Hormel Company and when he retired he became the grounds keeper for Prairie Valley Schools for seven years. Cleo and Jean enjoyed traveling to 37 states visiting relatives and friends. The couple enjoyed Blue Grass Festivals; becoming great friends with the Lewis family of Lincolnton, GA. The friends saw each other numerous times in seven different states. Cleo enjoyed traveling, music, visiting, and the Masonic Lodge, which he became a 50 year member of in June of 2010. He also enjoyed his coffee group.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be left for the United Methodist Church Gowrie.
