ALGONA - Parts of thirteen Christmas carols will be shared during the annual "Carols and Candles" musical program presented by the 17 voice choir of the First Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. Dec. 9 in the church sanctuary located at 101 N. Main St. in Algona.
Musical selections in this year's program will center around the theme "There's a Song in the Air."
This year's program will have a bit of a classical touch. The anthem "Angels Sing Gloria" has had its words set to the tune of "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring," while the accompaniment to the familiar carol "Silent Night" will feature strains of Prelude in C by J. S. Bach.
"The composers have really done a wonderful job in joining two different melodies together," said director Walt Reemtsma. The concert will close with the Christmas spiritual "Go Tell It On The Mountain."
Norma Ruhnke and Jason Etherington will share a duet version of the familiar carol "O Holy Night" and later in the program Etherington will sing "He Made a Way in a Manger." Accompanists will be Bev Mawdsley as organist and Reemtsma on piano.
Following the concert all are invited to enjoy a light supper in the church's Fellowship Hall.
During the concert a freewill offering will be taken to help defray concert expenses.
