CLIFFORD JAMES CARUTH

MADRID - Retired State Trooper, Clifford J. "Cliff" Caruth, 71, joined his true love, Donna in Heaven on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines. In agreement with Clifford's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, at Iles Funeral Homes, Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel in Madrid. Interment will follow at Hopkins Grove U. B. Cemetery, rural Madrid.

Clifford was born on January 11, 1941 in Ellsworth, Iowa, to Clarence James and Carrie Ann (Ubben) Caruth. On October 21, 1961, Cliff married his soul mate, Donna Louise Cady, in Boone, Iowa. To this loving union, Darla Ugolini and Dana Simons were created. From 1962-1964, Cliff was an army veteran of the Korean Conflict. From 1964-1971, Cliff resided in Sioux City, Iowa, where he worked as a Drivers' License examiner, then became an Iowa State Trooper. From 1971-1996, Cliff resided in Badger, Iowa, and worked as an Iowa State Trooper, retiring after 32 years. From 1997-2001, Cliff and Donna began a new journey, traveling all over the United States. By 2001, they missed their family and grandchildren so much, that Cliff and Donna built their new home in Madrid, Iowa. Cliff was a member of Hopkins Grove United Methodist Church, Iowa Troopers Association and Iowa State Policeman's Association.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Darla (Mike) Ugolini and Dana (Rob Collins) Simons both of Madrid; three brothers, Curt (Marian) Caruth of New Mexico, Clayton (Karla) Caruth of Oklahoma and Carroll (Cyndie) Caruth of Ankeny; three grandchildren, Cady Ugolini, Anthony Ugolini and Kaylee Simons; three great-grandchildren, Hayden McAfee, Alexis Allen and Joshua Allen. In addition to his wife, Donna; Cliff was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Clela Doggett and Carolyn Caruth.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 7, at the funeral home.
