WAUKEE - The Fort Dodge wrestling team will look to stay unbeaten in duals, as it hits the road for a triangular tonight.
The Dodgers (1-0 overall, 0-0 CIC) will face Waukee at 5:30 p.m. and finish with Johnston at approximately 7 p.m.
"Waukee is getting to be more of a veteran team,'' said Fort Dodge head coach Bobby Thompson. "They're more solid than they've been in the past.
"Johnston has a couple of tough kids.''
Fort Dodge is coming off a third place finish at the Eagle Grove Invitational were Erik Birnbaum (106) and Duke Egli (170) were crowned champions. Cole Detmering and Sam Cook were both runner ups.
In dual action this year the Dodgers own a 51-21 victory over Urbandale.
Thompson likes the way his young group has looked in its two mat appearances this season.
"I hope we can build off of last weeks action,'' Thompson said. "We had three good days of practice (after the invite on Saturday). We need to correct some of the mental mistakes of Saturday.
"We're excited to go on the road. The guys are starting to come together and bonding and supporting each other. We have some kids that are three sport athletes and they're riding that momentum of baseball and football into the wrestling room.''
Birnbaum, who is ranked 10th and Egli, who is fifth are both 4-0 on the season. Prescott (4-1) is rated 10th at 195 pounds.
Waukee's lone ranked wrestler is Chris Grow at 132 pounds. Grow is rated eighth.
Johnston's Henry Phlmeyer is fifth at 106 and Sam Schade is 10th at 152.
