IOWA FALLS - The St. Edmond wrestling team settled for a split in a North Central Conference triangular with Iowa Falls-Alden and Webster City on Thursday night.
The Gaels (1-2 overall, 1-2 NCC) cruised to a 54-22 victory over the Cadets, while dropping a 43-32 decision to the Lynx.
"Webster City's depth kind of caught up to us," said SEHS head coach Tanner Utley. "We're improving, though, which is encouraging. This season is a marathon and not a race. We want to be at our best at the end."
Ryan Szalat (106), sixth-ranked (Class 1A) Kaden McClintock (113), Colten Lastine (120), Nick Johnson (126), No. 5 Teddie Harvey (152) and fifth-ranked Vinnie Harvey (220) all posted two wins for the Gaels, while Matt Stumpf (138), Jimmy Averill (170) and Dillon Nelson (182) managed one victory each.
Szalat and Teddie Harvey both finished with a pair of pins. Teddie Harvey has now recorded 106 career triumphs.
"Our guys are learning how to compete and wrestle for a full six minutes," Utley said. "We just have to have a short-term memory and get ready for Saturday."
