HUMBOLDT - Started by the Humboldt/Dakota City Noon Kiwanis Club 30 years ago, Christmasland provides live animation scenes to delight the child in everyone. The display is open from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every night until Dec. 23; 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday until Dec. 23; and 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 20 through 24. Christmasland is on the corner of Fifth Street South and First Avenue South in Humboldt, one block south of downtown, directly south of Humboldt City Hall.
For 2012, there are several new scenes that were purchased featuring large snowmen engaged in various activities. The new displays were made possible by a generous grant from the Humboldt County Community Foundation and local Noon Kiwanis fundraisers.
Kiwanis members have also added new insulation and shelving and repainted some scenes for the coming year.
"We think people will be impressed with the changes and the new scenes," said Kiwanis Christmasland committee chair Dave Lee.
At the conclusion of the self-guided tour, youngsters get to visit with Santa and receive a candy cane.
Christmasland does not charge admission, but accepts freewill donations as it helps the display grow. Children should be accompanied by a parent or other adult.
Christmasland will be closed for inclement weather. The attraction will be open by arrangement for group tours. Call Dave Lee at 890-0116 to schedule a day and time. All school groups, nursing homes, group homes, church groups, businesses and civic organizations are welcome.
