Jeannette Bernice Baardson Christensen, daughter of Johan Nils and Brita (Klubbin Simonson), was born on a farm east of Humboldt. She passed away December 21, 2012 at the age of 86. Jeannette graduated from Humboldt High School in 1943. She attended Electronics Institute in Omaha and worked in civil service through the Navy Department during World War II.
On November 5, 1950 she was united in marriage to Delmar Charles Christensen at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. They farmed for 19 years in Clay County moving to Terril in 1969. In 1973 they moved to Somers where Delmar was a consultant with Central Iowa Farm Business Association. Jeannette worked for 3 years as a therapy aide at Sunny Knoll in Rockwell City. She helped Delmar in his office for 14 years. Jeannette was involved in 4-H as a leader in Clay County. She was active and held offices in Somers Library, Senior Citizens, and Somers Methodist Church, of which she was a member.
She is survived by three daughters Lynn (Doug) Dodge of Spirit Lake, Elaine (Jerry) Van Dyck of Des Moines, and Marjorie (Tim) Rittmer of Silver Lake, Wisconsin, seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren, sister, Helen Dodd of Humboldt, brothers Andrew (Eileen) Baardson of Tucson, Arizona, and Elmer (Phyllis) Baardson of Fort Dodge, nieces, nephews, and numerous relatives in Norway.
Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents, husband Delmar in 1987, and grandson Lee Rittmer in 1994. Final resting place is Union Cemetery in Humboldt.
A service honoring Jeannette's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, at the United Methodist Church in Rockwell City with the Rev. Anita Bane officiating. The visitation is from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church in Rockwell City. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.
