Ethel S. Oleson, 97, of Fort Dodge, died Friday, December 21, 2012 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home surrounded by her loving family.
A service honoring Ethel's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 29 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Allen Henderson officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Ethel was a life-long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Ethel Sophia Oleson was born Ethel S. Kreimar on November 22, 1915 to William and Matilda (Heitkamp) Kreimar in Burnside, Iowa. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1935. She married Darroll Parker November 16, 1938. Ethel and Darroll loved to ballroom dance at the Laramar Ballroom in Fort Dodge and around Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota to the Big Bands. Together they raised five children in Fort Dodge. Darroll died February 6, 1966. Ethel married Raymond Oleson November 21, 1971. Raymond and Ethel loved fishing in Iowa and especially spending a month each summer on Island Lake at Sleepy Hollow Resort in Minnesota. They were active in the Disabled American Veterans organization where she served as State Commander of Disabled American Veteran's Auxiliary of Iowa. Raymond died April 15, 2002. She was employed for a number of years at Gates Department Store working in the pattern department and accounting department until the store closed. She loved to sew making clothes for herself and her family. She was also an avid quilt maker loving making a quilt for each grandchild and each great grandchild. She also loved to winter in Arizona in later years.

She is survived by her children, Norma Bygness, John Day, OR; Bonny Mewhorter, Redmond, OR; Terry (Linda) Parker and Louise Jobe and her partner Dennis Wood from Fort Dodge; 15 grandchildren, Troy Larsen, Kaj Darin (Renee) Larsen, Shannon (Todd) Kelly, Erica (Eric) Palmrose, Jennifer Bygness, Tammy (Michael) Becker, Darroll (Shelley) Parker, Jennelle Jobe, Aaron Jobe, Brianne (Kiel) Patterson, Debbie Lawson, John (Katy) Parker, Kathy Parker, Liza Parker and Joe Luis Parker; and 22 great grandchildren. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Florence Kreimar Nafe and Irene Kreimar, an infant sister, her husbands, Darroll and Raymond, her son, John Parker and daughter-in-law Beverly Rice Parker.
She was a loving, happy woman who will be remembered fondly by all those she met and her spirit will be with all those she touched throughout her long, wonderful life. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.
