LAKE CITY - Doris Stokes, 82, died Monday, December 24, 2012 at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Lanesboro United Methodist Church in Lanesboro with Rev. Lexie Kirkpatrick officiating and burial in the Lanesboro Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday with family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City.
Doris Lou Stokes was born December 31, 1929 at Redwood, MN to Craig and Enid (Coomes) Remsburg. She graduated from Lanesboro High School and on November 27, 1949 she was united in marriage to Melvin Stokes in Lanesboro, IA. Doris was a member of the Lanesboro United Methodist Church and UMW, the Joy Circle and the Lake City Quilt Club.
Doris is survived by her husband, Melvin of Lake City, daughter, Elaine Evans of Pleasant Hill, son, Neil (Patty) Stokes of Colorado Springs, CO, daughter, Leanne (Randy) Blair of Glidden, anddaughter, Julie (Chris) Donnelly of Des Moines, 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, brother, Randy (Marlene) Remsburg, sisters, Marilyn Remsburg and Kay (Edgar) Hunt, brother-in-law, Paul Kopf and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Dennis Stokes, brothers, Bud and Galen Remsburg, sisters, Peggy McClue and Verla Kopf, and son-in-law, Bill Evans.
