CHARLES CITY - The Fort Dodge wrestling team will hit the dual scene for the first time in 2013.
The Dodgers (4-2 overall) will travel to Charles City tonight.
Junior varsity action begins at 6:30 p.m. with varsity to follow at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Fort Dodge is coming off a disappointing 10th place performance at the Jack Mendenhall Invitational in Ames.
"We're looking at each outing as a measuring stick,'' said Fort Dodge head coach Bobby Thompson. "We have to improve each time out, especially now that our schedule is getting tougher.''
The Dodgers will head into their rough patch of the schedule this week, traveling for the Cedar Rapids Jefferson tournament on Saturday, but first they'll meet the Comets tonight.
The Comets enter with five wrestlers ranked in the Top-10 at their respective weight classes, with four in the top-five.
Jesse Etherington (152) is rated No. 2, while Johnny Etherington (113) and Luke Johnson (195) are ranked No. 4.
Adam Staudt (138) is ranked fifth and Alex Mitchell is ranked No. 6 at 145 in Class 2A.
"They've had a good year and have good wrestling tradition,'' Thompson said. "Hopefully we can match with their intensity and not read too much into rankings. They've beaten some good teams.
"This should be a good rivalry that we can get going. They'll come to our place next year and hopefully we can get something going.
The Dodgers struggled last week in Ames, with Duke Egli winning the only championship and coming away with three fifth place performances.
Egli, who is ranked third at 170 is off to a 20-0 start and has racked up 90 career victories for the Dodgers. Riley Prescott (195) and Kyle Johnson (220) are ranked seventh and 10th respectively for the Dodgers.
