Continuing to gear up for districts, the Fort Dodge boys swim team hosted Ames for Senior Night here Thursday.

Despite dropping their final dual meet of the season by a 99-71 count, the Dodgers prevailed in four events against their CIC Northern Division rivals.

Senior Cal Brandt (100 butterfly, 57.25), junior Josh Lee (50 freestyle, 23.21), the 200 medley relay (Cal Brandt, Nick Sanford, Rob Leigh and Lee, 1:45.18) and the 400 freestyle relay (Alex Hage, Cal Brandt, Leigh and Lee, 3:26.47) all delivered victories for FDSH.

"I thought we swam really well (last night)," Dodger head coach Joel Greathouse said. "Ames is always a strong team, and we were able to keep (the final score) within pretty close distance. I was pretty happy with our effort."

Turning in runner-up performances for Fort Dodge were Cal Brandt (200 individual medley, 2:13.71), Hage (100 backstroke, 1:01.16), Nick Sanford (100 breaststroke, 1:09.33), Leigh (100 freestyle, 51.72) and the 200 freestyle relay (Aaron Brandt, Caleb Asay, Hage and Austin Sanford, 1:39.31).

"Our two relays (the medley and 400 freestyle) both had their best times of the season, and we were just very consistent all the way around," said Greathouse. "Even though we were so focused on the Rusty Garst Invitational (Saturday), we were still able to have some more drops, which usually doesn't happen."

In addition, Hage (200 freestyle, 1:58.90), Leigh (50 freestyle, 24.15), Lee (100 freestyle, 52.00) and the 400 freestyle relay (Bennett Lang, Seth Dolan, Tucker Van Wey and Asay, 3:46.95) each placed third for Fort Dodge.

"Rob Leigh had an especially good time in the 100 freestyle, and hopefully he can drop another second before the end of the season," Greathouse said. "As a team, we just have to stay consistent and keep trying to improve on our times before districts (the district meet will be held here Feb. 2)."

For the Little Cyclones, Chris Merchant (100 freestyle, 50.44 and 200 freestyle, 1:50.55 and 500 freestyle, 6:13.36) and Wyatt Rasmussen (100 backstroke, 58.25 and 200 individual medley, 2:05.10) were both double individual champions.

Next outing for the Dodgers is Saturday at the CIML Conference meet. Start time is set for noon in Johnston.
