ALGONA - The St. Edmond boys more than avenged a loss from earlier this season Friday night, thumping Algona 61-29.
In early December, the Gaels were defeated by the Bulldogs on their home floor, 50-46. Last night, there was never any doubt as St. Edmond (10-4 overall, 9-4 in NCC) came ready to play.
The Gaels jumped out to a 16-2 lead after the first eight minutes, and led by 18 entering the fourth.
Robby Burke scored 22 to pace St. Edmond, while David Flattery added 18 - including four three-pointers. Aaron McElroy chipped in nine.
"We didn't talk about the revenge factor, but I am sure it was in the back of their minds," SEHS head coach Adolph Kochendorfer said. "This game definitely had their attention because of what happened the first time we played. We did a much better job with our spacing on offense and our intensity on defense."
Flattery also had 10 rebounds, while Burke pulled down nine and Alex Mericle added eight. McElroy also dished out six assists, with Kochendorfer saying "Aaron did a nice job of running the show and locking down his defender on defense."
