JOHNSTON - Competing against several of the state's elite programs, the Fort Dodge boys swim team placed eighth at the CIML Conference meet on Saturday.
The Dodgers tallied 118 points. No. 1 West Des Moines Dowling (381) and second-ranked Johnston (366) paced the field.
Josh Lee (50 freestyle, 23:01) and the 400 freestyle relay quartet of Alex Hage, Cal Brandt, Rob Leigh and Lee (3:28.57) led the way for Fort Dodge with fifth-place efforts.
Cal Brandt also checked in sixth for the Dodgers in the 100 butterfly (56.79), while the 200 medley relay (Brandt, Nick Sanford, Leigh and Lee, 1:45.53) was seventh.
In addition, Brandt settled for eighth in the 200 individual medley (2:10.79), while Lee (100 freestyle, 51.66) and the 200 freestyle relay (Caleb Asay, Austin Sanford, Hage and Aaron Brandt, 1:38.81) were each 10th.
"This was just like a mini state meet, but it was exciting to watch the competition all day long," said FDSH head coach Joel Greathouse. "Even though it was hard to score many points, this was a good learning experience for our kids to see what they might run into at state."
Fort Dodge will next host the district meet on Feb. 2. Start time is set for 12:30 p.m.
