To the editor:
On Jan. 16, President Obama introduced 23 measures designed to curb gun violence. In his proposals, he intends to ban military-style assault weapons like "the ones used in Newtown."
First off, it has not yet been proven that an AR-15 was used; 1,000 police officers in schools? How many schools are there in the U.S.?
He also wants "Requiring federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations." His own Department of Justice couldn't keep track of the 2,000 guns in the Fast and Furious scandal, so how does he think another law is going to help?
I fully support criminal background checks, both at gun shows and licensed gun dealer shops but how are any of these laws going to prevent guns from being illegally obtained. I know there is going to be a lot of controversy over this letter and I'm looking forward to it.
Remember your Second Amendment and how we got the freedom that we still have.
