FD boys crush Mohawks

MASON CITY - The Fort Dodge boys basketball team won for the third time in four games here Friday night, riddling long-time foe Mason City by a 64-30 final.

The 34-point margin of victory for the Dodgers (6-9 overall, 3-2 CIC Northern) over the Mohawks (2-15, 0-5) was the second largest in the history of the series, topped only by an 84-43 FDSH victory in 1998.

''We were very efficient on offense and the defense was steady,'' said Dodger head coach Tom Daniel, whose squad is now 4-4 since the winter break after a 2-7 start. ''It's always nice to get a CIML road win, and this assures us of a first-round home game in the (substate tournament), which is an added bonus.

''We got a lot of guys into the game but didn't lose our focus or intensity. To double up any opponent is a rarity in this conference.''

Juniors Zach Martinson and Andrew Stover combined for 37 points on 15 of 19 shooting from the floor. Martinson out-scored the Mohawks (2-15, 0-5) by himself in the first half, 17-16, as the Dodgers built a 19-point advantage and never looked back.

Martinson (19 points), Stover (18) and fellow junior JC Hatcher (11) all reached double figures for Fort Dodge, which hit 18 of its 32 shots from inside the arc (56 percent).
