MASON CITY - The sixth-ranked (Class 5A) Mason City girls broke open a close game early to earn a 79-38 victory over Fort Dodge Friday night.
With three minutes to go in the first half, the Dodgers tied the game at 21-all. The Mohawks, however, went on a 13-1 run to close out the second quarter, and used another run in the third to claim the win.
"We just turned the ball over too many times, and they converted several quick transition baskets," FDSH head coach Scott Timmerman said. "We were right in the game there in the first half, but we allowed those two runs and they pulled away."
Tiana Mericle led the Dodgers (3-14 overall, 0-5 in CIC Northern division) with 14 points and eight rebounds, converting 6 of 9 shots from the floor.
"Tiana had her best game of the year on offense for sure," Timmerman said. "She played with a lot of confidence and really did a nice job coverting from inside the paint."
Lani Van Zyl added eight and Mallory Kilian contributed six.
