Hillary Tyler, was formally charged with first-degree murder in Webster County Magistrate Court on Sept. 22, 2011. Her trial is set to begin Monday.
Tyler has been in jail on $1 million bond since she was charged with the crime in September 2011.
On Sept. 20, 2011, Tyler allegedly killed the baby boy after giving birth in a room at the Super 8, 3755 Fifth Ave. S.
Fort Dodge police responded to the motel after getting a call from an employee. When officers arrived, they found the newborn's body and determined he did not die from natural causes.
Tyler, who was reportedly staying at the motel while in town for temporary work, was not at the Super 8 when police arrived, though they eventually located her.
She was charged with first-degree murder on Sept. 22 following a brief stay at Trinity Regional Medical Center for undisclosed medical reasons.
Tyler pleaded not guilty on Oct. 5, 2011, and demanded a speedy trial, which was originally scheduled for Dec. 6, 2011.
However, in mid-November, the trial was moved to April 10, 2012, following a request by Tyler's attorney, Charles Kenville.
The trial was then moved back two more times; once to July 31, 2012, and finally to Monday.
First-degree murder is a Class A felony, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole.
